The much-awaited construction of Arua Central Market in Arua Town has been launched.

The market will be constructed under phase two of the Markets and Agricultural Trade Improvement program by M/s Sadem Al Kuwait Construction Company and Dott Services Limited are to construct the market. It will be supervised by Joadah Consults Limited.

The ground breaking and handover of Arua main market was on the 19th February 2018 graced by the state minister of local government, state minister for northern Uganda, members of parliament from West Nile, district and municipal leaders, vendors of the market and residents of the municipality among others.

The construction of the market is costing 34.9 billion shillings.

According to the Minister of local government Tom Butime, this market is going to change the face of Arua.

“This project when completed must change the lives of people of West Nile”. He said.

He stressed that the people of Arua deserved the market.

State Minister for Northern Uganda Grace Kwiochiny stressed that the market will eradicate poverty. She said that the market when completed would provide 7,000 jobs.

State Minister for Northern Uganda Grace Kwiochiny calls upon the vendors to work hard and ensure that they fight poverty through growth of their economy.

The MP of Maracha district Rose Ayaka has said that everyone should monitor the project.

The RDC of Arua Peter Debele has urged the vendors to obey law and order.

However, the LC5 chairman Wadri Sam Nyakua warned the contractors on shoddy work. He said the project would be terminated if there is any breach of contract, but would be done within the law.

The vendors are very happy and appreciative about the construction of the market.

The African Development Bank funded project has so far constructed the markets in Gulu, Jinja, Mbarara completed within time.

The construction of Arua main market is expected to complete in 2 years. End
