St. Thomas Aquinas secondary school emerged as the winner of 2018 Nebbi district athletics championship hosted by Nebbi town secondary school playground.

While for girls, Erussi secondary school was the winner after battling it out with schools like Nebbi progressive secondary school, St. Maria Goretti secondary school Erussi parents that were trying their best to pick the same trophy.

In this year’s Nebbi district athletic championship only 12 schools participated. Schools like; Parombo secondary school, Good Parents’ Secondary school and Mamba secondary school didnt particiate.

Uringi senior secondary school, a school that used to perform very well in the athletic championship for Nebbi district this year missed. Mr. Bitola Francis, the game teacher of the school said the accident that the students got in the month of March disorganized the students and the school administrators.

Angal secondary school did not also turn up for the championship because they never had time to train because the students were sent home because of the attempted strike.

Mr. Jawiambe Colex general secretary games and sports Nebbi district said this year’s athletics championship were relatively calm. The organizers didnt register any complaints exp thus there was discipline that the students exhibited during the competitions

“Poor attitude of both participants and teachers towards athletics sports, late remittance of affiliation fee are among other challenges affecting games activities in Nebbi district” said Cekecan Albert chairperson Nebbi district secondary schools games and sports committee.

The selected participants are to represent the district in the national championship competitions that shall kick off in Arua district from 7th July -15 July at Barifa playground known as Dorcus Inzikuru playground. End
