Ministry of Local Government has approved the creation of four new sub counties in Yumbe district.

In a letter addressed to the office of the district chairperson, the ministry has approved the creation of Arilo, Lori, Odravu West and Arafa sub counties.

Aniku Saidi the district vice chairperson says the creation of the new administrative units is their own creation as a district arising from the needs of the communities as far as service delivery is concerned.

Arilo Sub County was curved from Kei Sub County, Arafa curved out of Drajini Sub County.

Alejo Jane the secretary social services Yumbe district says the letter approving the new creations was written way back on the 27th of April this year but the district received the letter late. The new units were intended to start operationalization this financial year.

If operationalized, the number of sub counties in Yumbe district will rise to sixteen and four town councils. End
