Pilgrims in Lira and Arua Dioceses are calling for reconciliation and re-union of the greater North ahead of next year’s annual GANAL provincial peace week.
In a week long caravan for dialogue to prepare for the January peace week, the pilgrims have appealed to the masses to use the peace week to foster peace in the greater North. Bro. Ermenio Drakare coordinated the dialogue in Arua Diocese.
Cyprian Okello, the Justice and Peace Commission coordinator in Lira Diocese says the region has suffered a history of violence which must now be replaced with peace.
Okwir Denis, Lira Diocese youth leader who was on the caravan warned the young people against being lured to perpetuate violence.
Veronica Eyotaru, a survivor of the 1981 Ombaci massacre denounced violence as it brings untold suffering to women and children.
Meanwhile Ojok Lilly Rose, Lira diocese women representative on the Caravan challenged the church and cultural leaders to control land sale which breeds potential conflict.
The week long caravan which covered the GANAL province is part of the 2019 provincial prayer peace week due in January in Lira Diocese. End
