The business communities in Arua district unified under the umbrella of Uganda chamber of commerce are in the process of serving the Electricity Regulatory Authority -ERA with letter of objection to protest the extension of West Nile Rural Electrification Company WENRECo contract.

WENRECo had applied to Uganda Electricity Regulatory Authority -ERA for a five year extension of its contract to generate and supply West Nile region with hydro electricity from Nyagak.

Atima Jackson chairman chamber of commerce Arua has described the 25 years of WENRECo supply in West Nile as years of economic downfall of potential businesses.

Angubo Jimmy an executive member of chamber of commerce Arua expressed worries about the short period given for power consumers to file their complaints.

West Nile Rural Electrification Company WENRECo initially signed a 20 year contract with the government to generate and distribute electricity in West Nile.

WENRECo is seeking for additional five years contract after recently securing five extended year’s up to January 2019.

Details of the new contract are advertised on the newspapers to seek public opinion before finalizing the paper works. End
