On the 6th day of the 5th synod of Arua diocese, pastoral agents were engaged in identifying and discussing the problems and weaknesses of the family that result in poverty in the diocese and how these problems can be addressed.

Some of the participants identified some of the problems such as misunderstandings among family members, ignorance, gossiping, poor planning for the future and laziness among others as the main causes of poverty in the families in the diocese.

But some of the participants suggested ways of addressing these challenges including practices like monogamy which cuts down expenses, effective planning for the family where children should be inculcated, encouraging unity within families among others.

Bishop of Arua diocese Sabino Ocan Odoki says the church strives to help the poor.

The synod that has gone on for about a week will end on 24th November with the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Arua diocese. End
