Authorities of Upper Madi County in Arua district with the help of World Vision have taken a deliberate move to ban night disco operations.  The local leaders assert that this is aimed at reversing the rampant teenage pregnancy cases in the area and improving on the performance of school learners in the constituency.

Isaac Etuka the Member of Parliament of Upper Madi constituency says this year alone the constituency lost about five girls due to early pregnancy related complications. He says from the information collected from the community members, the early pregnancies are as a result of the rampant night discos in the area.

The Sub County chairman of Ullepi John Adaku says with the help of the police, they will soon start impounding the equipment of disco operators.

In a recent interview with some parents in this county, they attributed the poor performance of their children in schools to the operations of the discos.

However this is not the first time for this county to pronounce itself on stopping night discos; their previous efforts on several occasions proved futile. The question of whether they will succeed this time is what many people in the county are now asking. End
