Implementation of the Curriculum for Early Childhood Development -ECD in nursery schools still remains a controversial matter.
However, the ministry of education and sports has been raising concerns on the mode of assessing the infants.
Okumu Sadad Sebbi, the principal Arua Nursery Teachers College has observed that most schools tend to deviate from the original policy, making children to lose interest in learning.
He also pointed out that holiday packages for nursery pupils is totally against the ECD guidelines.
The deputy head teacher in charge of academics Bright View Nursery and Primary school Afimani Daniel admits that most schools within Arua municipality depend on the written examination as the key mode of assessment.
Whereas Ayume Yasin the proprietor Noah’s Ark Nursery and Primary School says most parents still believe in written examination.
Private Nursery schools have continued to operate in their own ways with limited inspection. The few school inspectors already loaded with duties are unable to reach all the schools timely. Government’s policy of starting nursery section in every public primary school is also making a slow progress. End
