Arua municipality is set to benefit from the second phase of usmid funds having performed well in the previous projects.

According to the coordinator USMId Isaac Mutenyo, 8 municipalities will be added to the 14 municipalities already benefitting of which arua municipality is one.

The second phase is called USMID Additional funding which is about 360 million US dollars over a period of 5years  and according to Mutenyo the project should have started in July 2018 but there were delays of disbursement of funds and they had not received any funds yet. He adds that the money will support the eight districts will host refugees.

Meanwhile, the town clerk Christopher Kaweesi reveals some of the projects the municipality will embark on which include the construction of the slaughter house whose land was already acquired, others include, school road, go down road ,juago road, adroa road. He also requested USMID to act very first in providing money so that the works begin.

However, the chairperson of arua district Sam Nyakua requested that more resources be given to arua where possible for the roads. Nyakua says Arua district has 646kms of road network which need proper rehabilitation. He says only 30km would be worked on which to him is not enough.

The overall objective of USMID program is to enhance the institutional performance of the selected municipalities to improve urban service delivery. End
