MARACHA: President Museveni has asked religious leaders in Maracha to preach about profitable enterprises so as to alleviate their congregations from poverty.

This message was read for him by the State Minister for Northern Uganda, Mrs. Kwiyucwiny Freedom Grace

“58% of the home steads in Uganda are still poor because they are engaged in subsistence farming. They are working for the stomach only. I call upon the religious leaders and other responsible leaders in the community to guide our people in the selection of profitable Enterprises. If we solve the problem of poverty in the homes, Christians will be empowered to meaningfully contribute enough money to build their places of worship.”the letter read in part.

The President was on Sunday represented by the Minister in a fundraising function towards completion of construction works at Christ The Universal King Catholic Parish of Nyadri.

The President contributed shs 20m and the Minister added shs 1m more for the Church construction works.

Mr. Lawrence Adiga Maracha district chairman who was the Chairperson organising committee said atleast shs 200m is needed to complete the remaining project works.

“We have to raise a minimum of shs 200m. Atleast today, the Almighty Father should give us the resources to cause some changes there. For plastering the church, putting fittings and other things. We want the church to appear like other churches in other parts of Uganda” Mr. Adiga said.

Mr. James Acidri the Member of Parliament for Maracha East Constituency said, “When it comes to development, we call every one to unite. We must forget any minor differences because we are building this nation for our children. This particular function, I am very optimistic, will change the fact email of our church and that is why we are here. ” Mr. Acidri said.

The area member of Parliament contributed 70 bags of cement valued at shs 2.5m.

Other contributions

Mr. Kasiano Wadri Arua Municipality Member of Parliament contributed shs 1m.

Ediofe Cathedral offered shs 1m through, Msgnr Casto Adeti the Vicar General of Arua Diocese.

Fr. Peter Debo presented shs 1m collected by Christians in Kampala.

Former woman member of Parliament Maracha Ruth Ondoru contributed 30 bags of cement valued at shs 990000.

Mr. Denis Lee Oguzu the Maracha constituency Member of Parliament offered shs 400000.

Mrs Rose Ayaka Woman Member of Parliament Maracha contributed shs 300000.

One of the Christians said, “When completed, this church house is going to motivate Christians to come for prayers. Previously people used to pray under the tree and rain could sometimes disturb (mass).”

“We used to go up to Offude Parish and then Maracha Parish. But with the presence of the Parish centre here, we don’t go far for mass. ” another Christian said.”

The funds raised will be used to continue with construction of seating facilities, fittings of doors, Windows, screeding and plastering of the church structure.

Christ the Universal King Parish of Nyadri started in 2009 but Construction works of this Parish structure has been going on since 2010. End
