GULU CATHEDRAL-Pope Francis has imparted blessings upon the parish priest of St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Gulu Archdiocese, Msgr. Rev. Fr. Dr. Michael Lawrence Komakec for marking 25-years of priesthood. The pontiff’s message was contained in a gift delivered to the parish priest by the Rt. Rev. Sabino Ocan Odoki, the Bishop of Arua diocese, during a thanksgiving Holy Mass in St. Joseph’s Cathedral Church on Saturday, 13th October 2019.
The message itself read by Fr. Komakec to the congregation read: The Holy Father Francis cordially imparts the requested apostolic blessing to Rev. Fr. Michael Lawrence Komakec on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his priestly ordination, invoking through the intercession of the virgin mary and abundance of divine graces. St. Joseph’s Cathedral Gulu, 30th July, 2019. Fr. Komakec, after reading the message, added that the celebration was to be held in July, but because the date coincided with the ordination of deacons, it was thus postponed. Earlier, during the same mass, he had told the congregation about his close relationship with Bishop Odoki that dates back to their days of beginning the journey to priesthood. He had also spoken about how the bishop has never missed any invite to celebrate happy moments and during difficult times.
Bishop Odoki, who represented the Most Rev. John Baptist Odama, the Archbishop of Gulu reminded Christians to always follow the Christian doctrines. He said, “If we have enough knowledge on Christ, on God, then we have many blessings. If we follow sacraments and stay united, then we have so many blessings”. “I believe all these things we are ensuring that we follow. Let’s console one another. but most importantly, let’s strengthen our faith, trust and love because it will unite us as Christians”, the prelate added.
Rev. Fr. Komakec was ordained priest on 30th July 1994. Hundreds of Christians and various dignitaries attended his Silver Jubilee celebrations at Gulu Cathedral ceremonial grounds, marked by several forms of entertainment. End
