NEBBI- Multitudes are taking part in the ongoing 2020 Gulu, Arua, Nebbi and Lira dioceses (GANAL) provincial peace prayer week in Nebbi Catholic diocese.
Gulu Archbishop, John Baptist Odama has encouraged people to embrace peace to ensure harmonious coexistence. The archbishop, who officially opened the peace prayer week had a reflection on the theme; Peace, a Journey of Hope in the Face of Obstacles and Trials.
Odama said the peace prayer week started 15 years ago on rotational basis to ensure peace at all times. “We started this initiative which has become now our annual program in 2006 in Adjumani (Arua diocese). The theme that time was; In truth, Peace-peace can be acquired when we live, we talk, we act truth”, Odama reflected.
The executive secretary, Justice and Peace department at Uganda Episcopal Conference, Dr. Emmanuel Kizza said 15-years down the road, the peace prayer has played a very significant role in reconstructing societies in northern Uganda. “This is a very big moment that brings together all cultural leaders, brings together the religious leaders, the political leaders and all of them sit together and talk about peace”, said Kizza.
The prayer has attracted delegates from the DR. Congo as well. Catherine Akello from Mahagi Catholic diocese said peace is significant for body and societal interaction.
The diocesan administrator of Nebbi Catholic diocese, Msgr. Emmanuel Odaga also emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence. “May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of peace and Mother of Jesus, the Prince of peace pray for us that we may always be committed to the cause of peace”, prayed Odaga.
The peace prayer week is being celebrated on the theme: Peace, a Journey of Hope, Dialogue, Reconciliation and Ecological Conversion. The event that started on Monday, 13/01/2020 will climax on Friday, 17/01/2020. End firstname.lastname@example.org
