The motorcycles worth about shs. 54 million were handed over to the beneficiaries on Tuesday by Mrs Esther Soet Cherop, Maracha district Resident District Commissioner.

“Allow me to hand over these motorcycles on behalf of President’s Office and Ministry of health to the responsible officers, the District Surveillance Focal Person is going to benefit from one motorcycle, allow me also to hand over one of the motorcycles to the District Laboratory Focal Person so that he can do his work. And I am going to hand over one other motorcycle to the Assistant District Health Officer. I thank you for considering these key offices to receive the motorcycles.” Mrs. Soet said.

The Maracha District Surveillance Focal Person Mr. Joseph Lemira one of the beneficiaries said, “I am very pleased to receive this motorcycle today (Tuesday). And this motorcycle is going to make us do our work very well. It’s going to strengthen us to do our work in a better way unlike previously where we have been using one motorcycle which has never been in good condition. Service delivery had become affected to us.”

The Maracha District Laboratory Focal Person Mr. Emmanuel Papa says the motorcycle will help him to easily follow up COVID_19 suspected cases in the community.

“You know surveillance is all about movement, following up suspected cases especially concerning this COVID_19 pandemic. We move alot in the field but we have been having challenges of transport where by sometimes the vehicles which are assigned (for our movement) might be taken by other assignments. But for now as the motorcycles are delivered, we belive our services are going to be strengthened.” Mr. Papa said.

Maracha District Health Officer Dr Paul Onzubo said the motorcycles will be used to follow up health alerts for quick action.

” The motorcycles are meant for surveillance. That means following up cases reported in relation to fight against COVID_19 pandemic. The purpose of these motorcycles is to help us to follow up notifiable diseases. ” Dr. Onzubo said.

Mr. Lawrence Adiga the District Chairman asked the beneficiaries to use the motorcycles for the right purposes.
” I want to appeal to the officers who receive the motorcycles to use them for the intended activities to fight COVID_19 disease. I will also be monitoring how they are using the motorcycles.” Mr. Adiga said.End
