The efforts by Government to ensure Quality Health Care Services in West Nile region has been compromised by failure by many local Governments to recruit their staff in substantive positions.

According to the Director of Arua Regional Referral Hospital Dr. Filbert Nyeko, a number of Health Workers especially the District Health Officers are demotivated due to this practice.

The greatest Challenge in West Nile in our Health Sector is this issue of acting Positions. I don’t know what the issue is in Local Governments and this makes them demotivated. We used to have five District Health Officers in the whole region but the number has now reduced to four because, the DHO of Adjumani has joined Politics.

The acting Chairperson for District Health officers in West Nile, also Maracha District Health officer, Dr. Paul Onzubo says, government should consider increasing funding for the Health Sector in order to address some of the gaps.

The allocation of Resources in the Health Sector at National level in my opinion lacks substance. Instead of giving me a constituency, you better construct for me a health centre and equip health facilities.

The state Minister for Primary Health Care Dr. Moriku Joyce has called on the Health Workers to remain committed to their ethics as Ministry of Health tries to address some of these challenges.

I’m aware of some of these challenges that the Health Workers are going through. As a ministry, we are committed to ensuring that, some of these challenges are addressed. Meanwhile, my humble appeal to you is that, let us stick to our ethics and do our best amidst these challenges.

Arua District Assistant Chief Administrative officer Sandra Ewacabo has appealed to the ministry of Health officials to provide adequate Support to the Health Sector for effective service Delivery.

If we are to be effective in service delivery, we need to work together as local governments and the ministry of health officials also need to support us to address some of the issues.

With the creation of Terego District since July 2020, West Nile have region already has 12 Districts. End
