Moyo district has lost over 140 million shillings in the last financial year meant for construction of Opiro pipe water project in Moyo Sub County.
The district was tasked to return the money back to the central treasury for failing to utilize the fund even after the contract of the project was awarded to the contractor at tune of 153 million shillings before issuing a resignation letter to the district in June 2017 due to inadequacy of the funds for the project.
Izaruku Martin the Councillor representing Lefori sub county to the district council says it’s unfortunate that steps have not been taken on the matter to rescue the money.
Out of the 153 million shillings for the project the contractor managed to use only 10 million. Asusi JB Sam the secretary for works Moyo district local government said they had to return the funds to return to the treasury.
The land dispute where the project was to be established also contributed in the delay of the project. Anyama Williams the district chairman blamed the lose of the money on the former chief administrative officer Grandfield Omonda who is currently in Nakapiripiri district for having personal interest in project to remain the CAO of the district. He stressed that he didnt do enough save the money from returning central treasurer.
The community members in the villages of Opiro, Parego and Pachwawi were the project was intended to serve also contributed some funds per households to support the project especially for compensating the land lords who offered the land for the project. End
