Parliament will on Thursday hold a special sitting to pay tribute to the late Tooro King, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died last week.

According to the Order Paper for the 26th Sitting of the First Meeting of the First Session of the 12th Parliament, scheduled for September 3, 2026 at 2pm, the tribute motion is listed as the fourth item on the agenda.

The Motion for a Resolution of Parliament to pay tribute to the late King Oyo will be moved by the Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business, with 70 minutes allocated for debate.

The motion will be seconded by Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi and other MPs, including Lawrence Akugizibwe, MP for Mwenge County North; Linda Irene, Fort Portal City Woman Representative; and Spellanza Muhenda Boguma, Woman Representative for Kyenjojo District, among others.

The special sitting is expected to reflect on King Oyo’s contribution to culture, tourism, youth empowerment and development.

King Oyo ascended to the Tooro throne in 1995 at the age of three, becoming the world’s youngest reigning monarch at the time. He later became known for promoting culture while embracing modern approaches to leadership and development.

Parliament is also expected to recognise his contribution to education, health, environmental conservation and the promotion of unity.

After the tribute, Parliament will receive a statement from the Minister of Local Government on the progress of implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM) and the revised PDM guidelines.

The House will later consider the Prime Minister’s Time before debating a motion for adoption of the report of the Committee on Physical Infrastructure on the status of Uganda Railways Corporation as of August 2026.

The sitting, which will begin with prayers and communication from the Chair, will also consider a motion to express gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni for his State of the Nation Address delivered on June 4, 2026.

Parliament is expected to adjourn after transacting the listed business, as the country continues to await burial arrangements for the late King, which are expected to be announced by the Tooro Kingdom and Government.
