The Security Advisor in the Office of the Governor of Central Equatorial State in the Republic of South Sudan has commended the Diocese of Kajo-Keji for its efforts to restore peace and harmony along the Uganda–South Sudan border.

The commendation was made during a mid-year cross-border peace conference between Kajo-Keji in South Sudan and Uganda’s districts of Moyo, Obongi and Yumbe, held at Mere Boma in Kajo-Keji County.

FADRA, through the Diocese of Kajo-Keji and with support from ACT Church of Sweden, has been implementing a peace building programme in hotspot areas, aimed at promoting unity and peaceful coexistence between the Kuku and Madi communities.

Speaking during the mid-year cross-border peace conference in Kajo-Keji on Friday, August 4, 2026, Security Advisor Hon. Angelo Daga said the series of community dialogues has had a positive impact.

The conference brought together a high-level delegation from Juba, stakeholders from Kajo-Keji, and representatives from Uganda’s districts of Moyo, Yumbe and Obongi, as well as members of the cross-border peace committee.

“Our grievances are that, more especially issues along our borderlines, our sons, our brothers, our mothers, our fathers who are living along the borderlines, so have peace and harmony and continue to coexist. We are one people,” Daga said.

Meanwhile, Gertrude Collins Obedi, the Dean of Resident District Commissioners in West Nile, equally appreciated the Diocese of Kajo-Keji for its positive efforts towards promoting peace.

“The issue of peace, we all know, is very important for both countries and for both communities. If we don’t allow peace to prevail, then we are not doing anything useful for our communities,” she noted.

Whereas Rt. Rev. Dr. Lulua James, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kajo-Keji, said the purpose of the project is not about border demarcation.

“It’s about how we can coexist together, even if this border is here. How can we live together as one people as we wait for the border demarcation in future? And we don’t know when, because we don’t want to continue to experience the killings that were going on and are still going on,” the Bishop stated.

Abubaida Yazida Uthuman, the Minister for ICT, Science and Innovation and Aringa King of Yumbe District, called for the involvement of young people in peacebuilding efforts.

“As an organization, as a cultural institution, as political leaders, involve young people in what you people are doing,” he highlighted.

This comes in after the boarders communities having several conflicts over time.
