Arua Chief Magistrate His Worship Paul Matema has further remanded a 23-year-old man to prison over allegations of arson, with the court set to deliver its ruling on October 7, 2026.

The accused, Andama Henry, a resident of Luvu Ombaci Cell, Odravu Ward, formerly Oluko Sub-County in Arua City, is facing an arson charge in a case brought by the State, Uganda versus Andama Henry.

Prosecution alleges that on January 8, 2026, Andama set fire to and burnt down a house belonging to his father, Agadrabo Livingstone. He allegedly went into hiding following the incident. Andama, however, denies the allegation.

When he previously appeared before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in August this year, Andama was directed to present his witnesses to testify in his defence.

However, when he returned to court on Monday, Andama told the court that one of his witnesses had failed to appear after allegedly being threatened with arrest by his father.

During cross-examination by the State Attorney and defence counsel, Andama told the court that he had had a strained relationship with his father since 2018.

He said the disagreement arose after his father allegedly accused him of being dull and wasting money on school fees. According to Andama, the dispute prompted a family meeting, during which relatives agreed that his father should take him for hands-on skills training.

Andama told the court that his father accepted the decision but asked him to first settle down before proceeding with the training.

He further testified that he only learnt that a house at their family home had been burnt when he was at the police station following his arrest on August 7, 2026.

Andama, who did not have a surety in court, said he had been away doing casual work at the time of his arrest.

He told the court that he had left home following a disagreement with his sister and aunt, which he said arose after he attempted to stop his sister, who is still a student, from using a mobile phone.

The court has further remanded Andama in custody. He is expected to return on October 7, 2026, when the Chief Magistrate is scheduled to deliver the ruling.
