Women in Moyo District, led by Bayoa Juliet Asusi, the Chairperson of the Moyo District Women’s Council, have launched the Moyo Women’s SACCO to help women access affordable financial services and reduce dependence on high-interest loans.
The SACCO was launched during a thanksgiving ceremony for Juliet Aukuru Asusi, the newly elected Chairperson of the Moyo District Women’s Council.
Addressing women during the function, Bayoa said women have been struggling to access affordable credit because they do not have a SACCO of their own to address their financial challenges.
“Because of poverty, lack of empowerment, women are chased around because of loan every day and due to that, majority of the vendors in the market have abandoned businesses and are now idle at home so we need our own Sacco such that we chase ourselves within here,” said Bayoa.
Meanwhile, Anyama Williams, the NRM Chairperson for Moyo District, appreciated women for consistently sacrificing their resources to support and uphold their values
“Our women have shown that they can work together let’s not be dependents even the little you have can support you I want you women we should learn to sacrifice so that things work well for us, we should work hard to chase for our prosperities to build our district and support the young generation as well” Said Anyama
However, Aleru Tom Aza, the State Minister for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives and Member of Parliament for West Moyo County, pledged to use his office to ensure that the SACCO is duly registered by the government
“The little we collect will open for the us wider doors let us continue to mobilize the little resources to build our Sacco and I pledge to support this Sacco financially to get all the necessities for this Sacco to stand” Disclosed Aleru
The National Women’s Council was established in Uganda in 1993 to organize, unite and empower women to actively participate in national development and governance.
