ᴢᴏᴍʙᴏ ᴅɪsᴛʀɪᴄᴛ: Residents in Jangokoro subcounty, Zombo district are provoked by the appalling condition of a bridge across River Afuda along the deplorable Owenju – Padea Road.
The locals in the area are demanding the district authorities ti account for taxes they are paying by improving on the bridge and the road.
A resident of Akyukuma Village, Dindo Parish, Vincent Orwiny points out that children from Owenju always find it difficult to cross tge river due to the poor condition of the bridge.
The government does not consider us as citizens of this country that is why we do not benefit from the taxes we pay.
Several wood logs the locals put after the first timber decked bridge got broken have become in terrible condition.
The road also has developed several gullies due to erosion caused by heavy rains leaving the road surface rugged compromising effective transport network.
Jangokoro Sub county youth chairperson Richard Slot Odaga revealed that they have ever raised their concern on the poor states of the bridge and the road to the sub county leaders but no action has been taken.
This bridge was temporarily constructed NACOFA, a local NGO in the district at a cost of around five million in 2014 but after its collapse, the locals continued to put logs to help them maneuver their way.
The sub county chairperson Jangokoro Muhamed Okadha stressed that they are constrained by the low sub county resource envelope since their road fund is meager.
This is a district road, if anything the subcounty only comes to help because of the suffering of the locals but the meager road fund has tied up our hands.
According to the sub county chief, Jangokoro’s population has suddenly reduced to less than the actual 23,000 people thus reducing their grant to seven million therefore affecting the implementation of some of their programs.
Meanwhile Zombo District secretary social services Jovan Jax Oyiki who doubles as the sub county district councilor assured the residents that the district will work on the bridge and the road this financial year.
