The Bounce Back is a campaign run by DFCU Bank to address impact of COVID-19 on businesses where they offer loan at reduced interest and winners’ loan is off-set by the bank.
Irene Ayikoru, a Teacher at Ediofe Girls Primary School was announced the first lucky winner for the campaign in Arua City out of 8 others across the country.
DFCU Bank Branch Manager, Francis Obiti explains that, the campaign that runs from February 2020 to May 2021 is aimed at supporting businesses to bounce back after COVID-19 lockdown.
“The impact is still live and living with us, it has affected businesses. People’s capital has eroded even personal development has been affected because of this pandemic” he explains.
The Lucky Winner, Irene Ayikoru express gratitude as she narrates how she received the information.
Irene opened an account with the bank in 2011, she picked a loan of about 2 million shillings within the period of this campaign that enabled her to qualify for the draw.
“I am just so much excited” Irene says after receiving the cheque.
But when Irene was first called by DFCU Bank official to notify her about the win, she could not believe it.
“I just though lousy and said these are customers who are thieves, they always steal our money. So, the next day, Manager of DFCU Bank told me the story I was so much excited, up to now I continue to ring him about the whole process, he was explains to me until yesterday when I received the cheque and was so much excited” she recalls.
However, the Regional Manager of DFCU Bank for Northern Uganda, Christopher Kinyera says, the campaign helps to support economic transformation.The second phase of Bounce Back Campaign is expected to be launched after the current phase ends in May 2021.
As result of COVID-19 lock down, several businesses in the country closed and many are unable to start again.
