The physical planners in Northern Uganda are called upon to make proper planning in the different urban centers to ensure that, every development comes after proper planning in order to avoid cases of destructions after development in urban centers.

Urban centers normally attract a good number of people every day, and almost every one that is attracted in to these urban centers come with an idea of development, but most of them don’t know anything about physical planning.

But according to Joseph Pade, the commissioner for urban development in the ministry of lands, housing, and urban development, as Uganda gets most of its revenue from the urban centers, their proper planning would make wonders in proper development,

“Uganda gets 70 or 80% of its GDP from the urban sector, the revenues you get from the factories, the few businesses in our town are the ones running this country, just imagine if what would happen if our urban sector was well managed, well planned, and well resourced, this country would be flying,“ Joseph said.

Derrick Alfred Muhwezi, the President of the Uganda National Urban Forum says, there is need to sensitize the urban dwellers on the physical development plans that are generated, for easy implementation of these plans, as the community plays a vital role,

Wadri Sam Nyakua, the mayor of Arua city, urges the planners of the urban centers to learn from others for proper planning, “For the case of Arua, the municipality was only a small place, the greater part of Arua belonged to the rural district, and that time, people had money, they went and built in suburbs, so now if you go to some of those places, there are some good buildings which can’t be accessed, especially for those of you who are  small municipalities and town councils, you have something to learn, development must follow planning, please, make all the urban centers attractive to the people,” Nyakua said.

Proper implementation of an approved physical development plan in an urban area leads to proper management of the physical infrastructure, and this makes the urban center to be well organized.
