YUMBE PUPIL DROWNS IN RIVER KOCHI, RESIDENTS SEARCH FOR MISSING BODY

A primary one pupil of Manibe Islamic primary school in Yumbe district has drowned in river Kochi and the dead body has not yet been discovered.
 
The deceased Anguko Khadija, 9, met her death after she had gone to swim with two other children in the river on Thursday.
 
Ms. Salua Ismail, a relative to the deceased said, the deceased Anguko had been staying with her at Kogbo Village, Ombachi Parish in Lori sub county, Yumbe district but the incident caught them by surprise.
 
MS Salua said, the incident happened when she was for some funeral somewhere but according to the information got from home, the deceased disappeared from home at around 10:00am and her intention was to go to their home village in Midigo Sub County where the parents reside.
 
"The parents of the girls gave me the girl whole heartedly and was helping me a lot in domestic work. I have no misunderstanding with the girl but the girl feels bad when I am not around at home, she always think of going back to their home," she said.
 
She said, they searched for the girl in vain but they were later informed that the girl got drowned in water which shocked them.
 
Mr. Bran Angoliga, the LC 1 chairperson of Gadania village in Lori Sub County said, the deceased was brought to the village at around 12:00pm.
 
He said, this was after the girl had already crossed River Kochi Bridge and was heading to a wrong direction which drew the attention of a passer-by who interviewed her and later brought her to them.
 
"The girl was interviewed about her relatives but we could trace them. We were in the process of looking for the relatives of the deceased as she kept on playing with some of the children at home," he said.
 
"What happened later was, the deceased including two other children to sneaked to river Kochi for swimming. The deceased joined the other two children who know how to swim but because the deceased doesn't know how to swim, she got drowned," he added.
 
He said, the other two children attempted to rescue her but in vain and was swept away due to the strong force of the water adding that the children rushed to the nearby Gadania trading center while crying for help so, when some people reached the river, the dead body couldn't be got.
 
He added that, the search for the dead body of the girl is still on and advised people to be careful of the river because when it's flooded, people can lose their lives and that many have lost their lives in the river.
