Education stakeholders in Moyo district during the Irotaa program on Radio Pacis 104.8 FM raised some of the root causes leading to poor performance of leaners in the district.
Ivu Jimmy Dego the Executive Director clinical school of health services in Moyo district noted a contribution from the stakeholders and parents who don’t pay school fees and close supervision by the parents.
“Some of the parents don’t pay the school fees of their children, the children always stay home and comes at the last minute for examination,” Ivu pointed
He added that some parents fail to provide feeding for their children that makes a child fail to pay attention to the teacher.
Meanwhile Robert Drajuruga Morris the managing director for Asanti education consult attributed the poor performance to the government policies.
“There are gaps been evidenced by teachers but it seems there is a gap of understanding the curriculum,” Drajuruga noted.
Whereas Andevu Ceaser the DLC representing the people of Laropi town council to the district council attributed the poor performance in education sector in the district to mind set of the people.
“The mind set of our people has been kept differently people think if they carry their sons and daughters to Kampala they think better schools are that side, little do they know that if we improve our system for the required education in the district, our sons and daughters can perform even better than those taken that side” Ceaser disclosed.
The debate about poor performance in schools has continued to be blamed largely on parents but also other factors like government policies and implementation of the policies by schools.
