BETTER LIVELIHOOD: FOUR FARMERS IN MOYO AND OBONGI RECEIVE FIVE GOATS EACH

Four individual farmers two each from Laropi town council in Moyo district and Gimara Sub County in Obongi district had a reason to smile when they received 5 goats each.

This was after an assessment carried out while evaluating the Climate Resilient Livelihood opportunities for women economic empowerment project under Food and Agricultural Organizations (FAO) in partnership with Moyo District Farmer’s Association (MDFA).

It started in 2021 and ended in 2023 targeting 22 farmers, field schools in 11 sub counties of Moyo and Obongi district each.

On Tuesday January 21, 2025 Luran Agro forest in Laropi Moyo and Ti Wuti ta kugala in Obongi district received goats.

Anzoo Alice who works for Moyo district farmers association said the target is to let the farmers’ continue with the sustainability of their knowledge and the skills basing on the achievements and the assessment that was carried out.    
  
Emani Scovia one of the beneficiaries from Ti Wuti ta kugala in Obongi district said the goats distributed will improve the breed of the other goats she keeps. “Am so excited that it has been so long and now what they promised has finally been fulfilled. These goats are going to improve the local ones that we have been keeping,” she noted.   

Chandia Sarah, Lurania Agro forestry 2, Edre cell from Laropi town council in Moyo district expressed her happiness saying it’s going to improve her livelihood in terms of school fees, feeding, medical expenses among others, adding that she will not disappoint the Moyo district farmers association.  “I am so grateful for what Moyo district farmers association has done. I promise to take care of the goats and not to disappoint them,” she stressed.

Tiondi David Lagu the LC 3 Chairperson Laropi town council said anyone found selling the goats will stand accountable. “I hereby advice that, they should take good care of these animals that they have received, I expect none of them to involve in selling any of these five animals given to each of them,” he warned the beneficiaries.
