MOYO LEADERS CALL ON COMMUNITIES TO TURN UP FOR VOTER REGISTRATION

Stakeholders in Moyo District have appealed for increased mobilization strategies in the registration and verification of names in preparation for general elections come 2026.
This follows a low turn up of locals at most verification points in parishes.
Mr. Eriku John DK the area LC 1 Besia cell in moyo town council when contacted to find out the progress of the registration and verification exercises says the turn up is a bit low since the beginning of the exercise.
“We mobilized communities to come and update and also those who are now eligible to vote can come for registration but the turn up is low, May be because of interruptions like when the register book came late however we continue appealing to the people to come and check their names. Those who have not registered to come and register.” Mr. Eriku said.
Hon. Asusi JB Sam the councilor representing Metu Sub County and secretary for finance and administration says this is a general exercises and appealed for collective mobilization to increase participation.
“It is also the time for those who have not registered to pick interest and register, so I invite you, in fact I further appeal to you that, let us mobilize and get registered.” Hon. Asusi JB said.
The electoral commission general registration and verification exercise started on January 20, and will end on February 10, 2025.
Hon. Anyama Williams Moyo district chairperson rallied all political leaders regardless of their parties to be mobilizers for this very important exercises.
“Let us mobilize our people to go and check their names on voters register. It is going to close on 10th of February. I know their challenges but please let us take this as a serious program, even the candidates if you don’t mobilize people to go and register then you will have no voters.” Hon. Anyama appealed.
The registration and verification of names is a preparatory activity for Uganda’s 2026 general election.
