Ayivu division council in Arua city is planning to start the construction of the long awaited division office complex following the award of the multi-billion project to a contractor.

In 2022/2023 financial year, Ayivu division and Arua city physical planning committee approved a plan for the multibillion office complex to be situated at the division headquarters in Onduparaka but the project delayed.

Hon Joel Nackson Ayiko the Ayivu division council speaker urges the responsible authorities to speed up with the necessary processes in order to kick start the construction works to save Ayivu Division council from the cost of hiring venues to conduct its council sitting.

“The update here is that the office complex includes the council hall to conduct our council sittings and we are sitting outside here because the construction works have not yet commenced,” he said.

Ayivu division initially planned to complete the multibillion office complex project in three financial years and since then the council has accrued about 550 million shillings for the project now awaiting the clearance from solicitor general.

During the 10th council meeting of the 3rd session of the 1st Ayivu Division council, Hon Sunday Eriku the chairman works and technical services committee says the multi-billion project has been awarded to a contractor and awaits for clearance.

“The issue of office block which featured here several times, so what I can tell this August House now is that after you people threatened to throw the project to the UPDF engineering brigade, the Arua City contracts committee took a decision and the project has now been awarded,” he revealed.

Eriku however expresses optimism that the long awaited project will soon commence after being cleared by the solicitor general.

“But it is also a policy requirement that when a project exceeds 200 million it should be cleared by the office of the solicitor general within 21 days and our town clerk has duly submitted this, and we are just counting on this 21 days after which you will see your invitation for the ground breaking,” he said.

The architectural design of the 3.89 billion shillings Ayivu division office block was designed by Newton Technical Services Limited and was expected to kick-start in 2022/2023 fiscal year but has been extended up to this far.
