ARUA CITY BUSINESSMAN LOSES MORE THAN HALF A BILLION IN AGGRAVATED ROBBERY

The police in West Nile has warned business operators against keeping large sums of money in their homes and business premises following an aggravated robbery incident in Arua city.

The robbery that took place on  February 15, 2025 at around 6:30PM saw one identified as Husmukhbhai Gadder, an Indian business man, Manager of  SAGEMIN Trading Ltd, a resident of Arua Hospital  Cell, Bazaar Ward, Central Division in Arua City lose cash money worth ninety five million Ugandan shillings (95,000,000 UGX), twenty five thousand US Dollar ($25,000), Gold worth seventy seven thousand five hundred US Dollar ($77,500) to his employees identified as, Naftali Boniface and Nadayo Godfrey  a Tanzania National who connived and turned against him.

According to the victim, the robbers armed with two (2) knives first switched of the electricity lights then proceeded to his office and threatened to slaughter him if he made any alarm.

The duo then sealed the victims mouth using a cello tape, tied his hands with ropes behind and his legs on the chair before proceeding to pick the items with the bags in the office, after which they fled the scene to an unknown destination.

The victim after realizing that the robbers had gone after an interval of about 30 Minutes, started jumping from the office with  the hands tied on the chair up to the gate where he was later helped by a boda-boda rider who unsealed the cello tape  from his mouth (victim), untied him and then reported the matter to CPS Arua.

According to Asea Collins the Police PRO for West Nile it’s unfortunate that people under look the dangers of keeping large sums of money in their homes and business places.

“Our business men and women still keep monies in their homes which is very unfortunate. Banks are there and we even have banks agent. I don’t know why people don’t trust our banks,” he explained.

Asea, further advises the business people across the region to provide security for their businesses and avoid keeping large sums of money in the offices or homes.

“With that, you will be endangering your lives and that of your people at home. If the money is being kept at home, then provide maximum security. First have a proper security for your money so that you have a safe business” Asea emphasized.

By press time the police were still investigating the matter with no arrests made under file number CBD vide above SD REF: 65/15/02/205.
