POLICE CALLS FOR VIGILANCE AMONG POPULACE TO AVERT CRIME IN WEST NILE

Police in West Nile region call upon the public in the region to be vigilant and report cases of insecurity to the leaders and the security to keep safe.
This appeal has come after the recovery of an illegal gun from a suspect in Koboko district.
The recovered gun is suspected to have been smuggled from the neighboring south Sudan.
Supretendant of police, Collins Asea, the Public Relations Officer for West Nile region confirmed this.
“We recovered an AK47 in Koboko from Nakoti Levis, a resident of Rhino camp through our intelligence led operation with the help of the DPC Koboko, The suspect was arrested, the gun is currently with our investigations team, and Levis is detained, a team of UPDF and Uganda police are currying a joint investigations,” Asea said.

Asea urges the community members to always liaise with police on matters of security to prevent some of these illegal deals.
“We always have our intelligence team on the borderline, but we also urge to be alert because these guns after acquiring them, they come back to terrorize our communities in the region, we liaise with the community on the ground…” says Asea.
The Ugandan law does not permit civilians to acquire, or use fire arms illegally, and anyone found in possession of a fire arm is liable for prosecution in the courts of law.
