The Acting Arua Resident city commissioner Judith Bako has suspended the Arua city post primary school ball games till further notice due to the growing wave of indiscipline and violence.

The games that commenced last week in about six venues for both boys and girls football has seen high level of violence in the various venues with cases of phone snatching, school on school attacks among others, making the officials to move the games to Arua city police grounds for the quarter finals where the police were forced to fired bullets and tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Bako who stepped into the shoe of the RCC Salim Kumakech who is off for annual leave revealed that the suspension is to curb insecurity.

“The six games that are remaining are not going to be played here until I find out the specific dates when now the remaining games will be played, I have done this in good faith because I do not want the city center to become insecure for other users of the center because I realized there were wrong people who were already grabbing phones, students were already smashing peoples’ cars, to avoid these insecurities I had to condone by postponing,” Bako disclosed.

Bernard Angua the vice technical chairman of the Uganda secondary schools association ball games admitted the massive traffic caused due to the commotion in the games.

“Some of these students were out of uniform, some came even in shorts, we could not differentiate them from Old students so it affected the traffic so the two games were called off, as organizers we are yet going to decide and then communicate to these schools when this quarter finals are to be completed as we plan to have a peaceful games,” Angua testified.

Meanwhile Rashid Apangu the district football Association chairperson for Arua city described the suspension unfortunate.

“As Arua city for the secondary schools their progress in the games it is very unfortunate, I believe that they can get another way forward for the games to resume but if that will not happen that means we shall not be represented at the national level then that is going to be a setback for us,” Apangu petitioned.

The quarter final played games show St. Joseph’s College Ombaci and Mvara S.S.S moving to semi-finals in the boys’ football while Bishop Angelo Tarantino S.S and St. Mary’s Ediofe Girls’ qualify for girls’ football semi-finals.
