The Aweikwo community in Loro Sub County, Oyam District, Northern Uganda, is celebrating a significant milestone in their pursuit of clean and safe water.

A newly constructed borehole, funded by Pioneer Evangelism Network Uganda in partnership with Oyam South MP aspirant Patrick Ogwang Obura, was officially inaugurated this week.

The vibrant commissioning ceremony brought together community members, local leaders, and key stakeholders.

Reports indicate that the borehole is expected to provide clean water to over 2,000 people from five villages: Aweikwo, Agengo A, Agengo B, Atur and Atop.

This development promises to alleviate the challenges faced by residents—particularly women and children—who previously endured long walks to fetch water.

Speaking at the ceremony, Patrick Ogwang Obura, represented by his political assistant Kenneth Ayuku, highlighted the transformative impact of the project. “This borehole is not just a source of water but a symbol of hope and development for our community. We thank Pioneer Evangelism Network Uganda and Patrick Ogwang Obura for making this possible. May God bless you all,” he remarked.

He also encouraged the community to maintain the borehole diligently by forming a water source committee that would collect funds for its maintenance.

In a show of commitment, Ogwang Obura pledged a monthly contribution of 50,000 UGX to support the community.

In addition, he proposed that the community offer a piece of land for the establishment of a Pioneer Evangelism Network Uganda church.
He emphasized that this would foster spiritual growth while serving as a lasting reminder of the organization’s contributions to Uganda.

Eunice Owinya, the female LC3 councillor for Alutkot Parish who represented the LC3 chairperson of Loro Sub County, praised Pioneer Evangelism Network Uganda and Ogwang Obura for their collaboration in supplementing government efforts to improve access to clean water.

She noted, however, that Loro Sub County’s six parishes still face a shortage of functional water sources, calling for intensified efforts in rehabilitating and installing boreholes.

Residents Alfred Onyango, Ako George, and Silvia Oming shared their gratitude, expressing optimism about the changes the borehole would bring.

“This borehole will change our lives. Our children will now have more time for school, and we will no longer have to worry about diseases caused by unsafe water,” they said.

Pastor Geoffrey Odel, Pioneer Evangelism Network Uganda's coordinator for Oyam District, expressed heartfelt thanks to the community and Patrick Ogwang Obura for the warm welcome.

He explained that the borehole is part of a broader initiative to improve water accessibility and public health in rural areas. He added that, beyond providing clean water, the organization's primary aim is to offer "spiritual water" through the establishment of churches, which would help expand God's kingdom.

He urged community members to embrace salvation, assuring them that it would pave the way for greater success in their endeavors.

As the ribbon was cut and water flowed for the first time, the atmosphere was filled with cheers and gratitude—a testament to the hope and positive change this borehole represents.
