Moyo district launched the first malaria vaccination exercise on 8th April 2025 At Besia health center iii, which saw a great number of babies vaccinated with the first dose. This is meant to curb malaria cases in the district as it is being administered to children from 6months to 5 years old.

Lenia Irene a mother had this to say about the vaccination “I brought my kid for vaccination because I don’t want my child to suffer from malaria, I embrace his health so that he grows up healthy” she said.

Meanwhile, Dradriga Anthony the in-charge Besia health center iii elaborates on the age category that qualify for the vaccination. “So this introduction is mainly for the age category starting from six (6) to eleven months for this roll out and they are getting four (4) doses. If a baby gets the first dose at six months, the second dose will be at the seventh month and the third dose will be at the eighth then the fourth dose will be after the six months. so the benefit of this vaccine is not to control or to prevent the malaria itself from attacking these babies but it is to prevent them from the severity of the disease, when the baby gets full dose of this vaccine then the child’s immune system becomes stronger to fights this killer disease” Radriga Expressed.

Batio Joyce Idu, the secretary for health Moyo district who doubles as the woman councilor Moyo Town council called upon the general public to embrace the program. “I strongly believe that with the introduction of this current vaccine for malaria and if fully embraced, it is going to act as one of the preventive measures for malaria”.

However Idii Frankline, the district health officer Moyo explains why the malaria vaccination is brought to the district. “Why this vaccine is because malaria is a top killer and it is the leading cause of morbidity.  we are also embracing this vaccine because we want to eliminate the severe form of malaria such as loss of blood and other attacks brought about by malaria and for the last one year and four months we have not registered any death attributed to malaria in Moyo district” he stated.

The introduction of malaria vaccination in the past years has greatly reduced the rampart death of infants according to health officials in Moyo making the district listed among the few affected with malaria.
