Private primary schools in Pajulu Zone, Ayivu Divivion, Arua city are being accused of killing talents of pupils by failing to register to participate in games and sports activities.

This issue came to light during the conclusion of the interschools primary athletics co petitions held in Pokea.

According to the games and sports committee in Pajulu, a number of private schools do not present their learners to participate in athletics, while some do participate in only football and others never participate in any co-curricular activities.

Games and sports are part of activities in the academic calendar for all schools across the country according ministry of education and sports policies.

Elama Justu Oloto, the chairperson head teachers association for Pajulu zone promised to follow up from next week on the schools that failed to turn up so that they can raise monies to support the athletes selected to represent the zone at the inter zonal competitions.

“They have to participate in sports activities. That is a government policy. And so, it’s not our problem that they have failed to participate but they are going to pay the affiliation,” Oloto remarked.

Nyakuni Stanley the chairperson Pajulu zone games and sports committee noted that, if no actions are taken a number of learners whose future could be determined by games risk losing out their talents.

“We have ever talked to all the schools requesting them to come on board when these activities are planned. These children ae not private. Some private schools have negative attitude towards athletics but during ball games, you see a number of them coming. This time the political wing is on our side. We have been given orders, letters have been drafted and are going to be circulated to all those schools that did not participate, they will have to pay some fine,” he said.

Hon. Adia James Yoti speaking during the closure of the games.

Hon. Adia James Yoti, the councilor representing Pajulu to the city while presiding over the event as the chief guest reiterated the call for a tough action against schools that defy ministry policies.

“Last year, I did mention that private schools that fail to participate in this year’s athletics competitions and balls games in second term must be charged and punished for that. And I promise that, they must be fined seriously. The association of head teachers from Pajulu, pick this from me that all the private schools that failed to participate in the athletics competition must pay the fine to the committee. Why do they want to fail the future of our children?” Hon. Adia queried.

Out of over 50 primary schools in Pajulu zone only l6 including the 9 government or public schools participated in this year’s inter schools’ athletics competitions for the zone.
