Stakeholders in the Madi sub-region have stressed the importance of learners studying and living in clean environments, both at home and at school. They noted that a clean environment not only improves academic performance but also boosts learners' health.

Uzadio Rita, a Primary Four pupil at Moyo Town Council Primary School, shared her experience, "Learning in a clean environment makes us happy and keeps our brains active because of the fresh air we breathe. I realize that when we do general cleaning at school, we learn more. Also, illnesses like diarrhea and cholera no longer affect us because our environment is clean," Uzadio said.

Meanwhile, Amoko Ben Juani, the Deputy Head Teacher of Nuru Primary School in Moyo, emphasized that a clean environment protects learners from diseases and enhances teaching and learning activities.

"Learning in a clean environment prevents students from being infected by communicable diseases. Therefore diseases, such as cholera and diarrhea, can easily be contracted from dirty environments or contaminated foods, including unwashed fruits like mangoes. When the environment is clean, children enjoy learning more, especially in classrooms where they have access to fresh air and a free mind. Pupils learn better with their teachers, and that is a great advantage to them," Juani expressed.

Mali Michael, the District Education Officer for Moyo, called on parents to guide children in protecting green fruits, especially mangoes, which contribute to the area's rich environment.

"Our environment is blessed with valuable food resources, but sometimes we waste these gifts. My appeal is that we handle them carefully, especially guiding the children. Otherwise, a lot of mango fruits go to waste. Mangoes can even be exported to earn income that supports school fees," Mali explained.

Similarly, Otim Benson Humphrey, the Chief Administrative Officer of Obongi District, urged children, parents, and school administrators to prioritize maintaining a clean environment to improve academic performance.

"School management committees, leadership teams, and head teachers must ensure that as children attend school, the security of school equipment, scholastic materials, and other necessities is guaranteed. General cleanliness is crucial — a healthy environment supports a healthy mind, which in turn boosts performance.

As learners head home for the upcoming holiday, they should also help their parents maintain a clean and secure environment," Humphrey advised.
