More than forty catechists from the eight parishes under ediofe deanery in Arua diocese have undertaken a refresher course at Ediofe Cathedral Parish during a workshop organized by the leadership of the catechists in the deanery.
The two day reformation that was held on Thursday August 20 and Friday 21 aimed at strengthening the capacity of the catechists in ministering to the Christian community as well as promoting personal lives.
Rev. Fr. Felix Epima, the pastoral coordinator of arua diocese who was the facilitator for the reformation commended the catechists for prioritizing the reformation hoping to see them do their work better;
“It is to renew them in their ministry and it is to help them deepen some of their teachings, their doctrines and also it is to help them to re-energize in the ministry and that will help them go back and minister to the people better. From the eight parishes of this deanery, they are all represented and generally they have been positive and came in their big numbers.” Fr. Epima noted.

Meanwhile Cat. Donato Andama, the vice secretary for the catechist’s life desk ediofe deanery noted that catechists need to be exemplary in their work given the several roles they perform in the church community;
“We are doing a lot of work in the Christian communities. We are teaching the infant baptism, we are teaching the adult baptism, we are teaching the first Holy Communion, we are teaching the matrimony so our reformation is to see to it that we should be exemplary in the Christian communities that we are leading.” Andama explained.
Catechist Jennifer from Pokea parish, and Catechist William Feni from Yivu Parish shared their experiences on the reformation;
“Today we are very happy that we have got formation which will build us spiritually and we are happy that we are also going back with what we have learnt to our Christians. We are hopeful that if this could be organized at least three or four times a year, we could change our spiritual life and it will also give growth to our chapel, our parish and even our diocese,” Jennifer said.
“They have told us that you should not rely on what the Christians are giving to you and first of all if you want to bring your family well, what you have to do is in fact to work very hard in order to make sure really you have to develop your family,” Feni said.
The theme for the reformation was centered around the roles and the mission of the catechists in the Catholic Church with a special focus on coordinating the religious with the lay apostolate in the church.
