The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and Palm Corps, implementing partners of the Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative, have engaged stakeholders in Moyo District on enhancing climate adaptation and resilience among refugee-hosting communities.
The engagement focused on promoting climate-smart agriculture, sustainable environmental management, and the conservation of natural resources to improve biodiversity, ecosystem services and agricultural productivity.
Bayo Joel, the Team Leader at the Danish Refugee Council, explained that the project seeks to restore degraded areas and create a conducive environment for climate-smart agriculture to thrive.
Asienzo Catherine, the Principal Human Resource Officer, who represented the Chief Administrative Officer, urged stakeholders to operate with transparency and honesty while ensuring that beneficiaries’ resources are protected. “We should embrace honesty in what is given to the community,” she said.
The Aluru Sub-county LC3 Chairperson, Oduti Francis Aulogo, challenged the implementing partners to maintain project files in their respective catchment areas to facilitate effective monitoring and follow-up. “It is rare for partners to keep files at sub-county headquarters where they are implementing projects,” he said.
Meanwhile, Isadru Peter, the Secretary for Social Services, called on the partners to prioritize the sustainability of the project to avoid creating a negative impression similar to that left by some previous organizations.
The Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative is implementing a five-year project in Moyo District.
