Police at North Kyoga Region have registered seven different murder cases in the region from September 23 -29, 2024 alone.

It included murder by mob in Kole district and murder by gang rape in Lira City East Division among others.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Regional police spokesperson said in his Monday press briefing that territorial police in Lira City East Division are investigating alleged murder by gang rape at the same time looking for three suspects involved in the allegation.

“This incident happened on the 27th of September 2024 at 19.30 hours in Tingtwo village Alebe Parish, Itek sub-county in Lira district. It was alleged that on the 27th September 2024 at around 19.300 hours, Simon Ogwang, husband to Semmy Akello and Sedrick Okoda left a traditional dance place in the trading center and going back home,”Okema said.

However, Ogwang left his wife Semi to go home with Okoda, who is a cousin too. Shortly while walking, three men known as Nyanga Tony, Odyek Andrew and Okwir Jasper came on a numberless motorcycle, stopped and Nyanga jumped out of the motorcycle to box Okoda.

He grabbed Semi and pulled her into the bush and an act of forced sex was conducted in the bush.

Fortunately, one Emmanuel Odongo while passing by realized what was going on and Okoda told him they immediately went to the bush where these three suspects took off.

“The matter was reported to LC1 of the area. The victim was taken to Dolika clinic for medical attention but her condition wasn't good. On the 28th of September, the next day Semi Akello passed on due to the injuries she sustained. The case was reported to Abolet police station,’’ Okema adds.

Okema appealed to any member of the public who could be knowing the whereabouts of the three men, Nyanga Tony, Odiek Andrew and Okwui Jasper to kindly share the information with any nearest police facility for arrest and prosecution.

He equally urged the Community members to always be supportive to the police for successful investigation on some of these allegations that come upon suspected criminals. ‘’Murders is a total violation of human rights and it's against the constitution of this country,”Okema asserted.

Likewise Okema said in Kole district police are investigating a suspected murder by mob of a renowned thief identified as Adupa Martin, 33 years old, a resident of Alwala village, Abeli parish, Akalo sub-count in Kole district.

It was alleged that on September 27, 2024, at around 11:00 hours, Adupa was found with goat's meat, intestine and a head and two knives while in a polythene bag. He was suspected to have stolen someone's goat and slaughtered it, following his previous records.

The people from the area where they found him in Atuta village got him and badly beat him and left him with serious injuries, where he allegedly bled to death. “The matter was reported at Akalo police station. The scene of crime was visited, examined and equally documented by our scene of crime officers. The deceased body was picked and conveyed to the mortuary at Lira Regional Referral Hospital for post mortem to be conducted. We haven't identified the owner of the suspected stolen goat, nor the people who were involved in the beating of the deceased. This is a very strong warning and message to the thieves,” Okema said

Okema adds, ”They must know that the community members are very tired of their actions. Hence, we advise them to change and engage in developmental activities. However, we condemn very strongly action of taking law into their hands,”
