POLICE IN MOYO ARRESTS DRIVER FOR ALLEGEDLY MISUSING GOVERNMENT VEHICLE

Police in Moyo district have arrested a driver of Moyo district local government on allegations of misusing government vehicle.

The driver attached to the engineering department of the district is in trouble after he was caught by the district security team led by the Resident Dstrict Commissioner using the water boozer reg. no UG2391W to supply water at a private construction site.

Before his arrest while at the site, Mr.  Mawadri James the driver confirmed to Radio Pacis newsroom that he was instructed to supply water to the site by one identified as Asili Ceaser a mechanic at the engineering department.

Superintendent  of police  Dragudu Ignatius the  police public relations officer for northwest Nile region says the driver has been arrested and charged for abuse of office.

‘‘the driver James Mawadri has been apprehended and charged with the offense of abuse of office , he was found using the vehicle of  Moyo district local government  attached to the engineering department for  private work without proper procedures without the approval of the district engineer ,’’he said

He further added that the procedures of local government engineering department and road equipment is very clear and should be followed for authorization.

Meanwhile, the secretary for works and transport Moyo district Mr. .Andu Richard Opeli explained that proper procedures should be followed while using government equipment.

‘‘Normally these road equipment’s cannot be used without permission of the highest authority of that department, so what happened is procedural and if the driver has been arrested then it’s in order, let the law take its course,’’ he remarked.

Mr. Gore Goffin, The RDC Moyo sounded a strong warning against misusing that government property for their own benefit adding that very soon they will swing in action.

‘‘We as government, we have been watching the use of government assets in the districts and we have been tracking until this morning we have been able to trap the district water boozer used to supply water at private entity without authorization and clearance, how can someone be misusing government property, I want to sound a warning that government property including the cars are supposed to be parked at 5 pm. very soon we shall swing in to action and start arresting  government vehicles  being parked in the bars ,private homes which is not a government parking yards ,’’the RDC warned .

However by press time efforts made to get a comment from the office of the chief administrative office were futile.
