Arua city authority has launched the rehabilitation of the 5Km Mvara-Ociba -Dadamu-Ombaci road that links the two giant schools of St. Joseph’s College Ombaci and Mvara senior secondary schools in Arua city under the 1 billion road fund given by the government of Uganda to districts and cities across the country to maintain the roads in their area.

The 320million shillings rehabilitation work of the road comes after the community in the catchment areas threatened to protest over the appalling state of the road after it was worked on about 10 years ago.

Geoffrey Fetaa the Member of Parliament for Ayivu East and chairman Arua city roads committee while addressing the community and the road users on Tuesday, June 11th 2024 in Dadamu trading centre disclosed that “this road has been due for maintenance for a very long time and there has been no major rehabilitation works, we had to prioritize the rehabilitation on this road because of the demand of the community has been putting on us and because of the state of the road which is a trade hub to access the main market,” Fetaa divulged.

Adia Vin Lawrence the local council 2 chairman of Ariwara ward in Ayivu East uttered his pleasure over the commencement of the rehabilitation of the road. “this road was last maintained some 10 years back and since then we have been giving government feedback on the state of the road but no response was given to us, we have our children from the other side and during rainy season transporting them to school has been a challenge, am very glad that they have thought of coming to work on this road,” He said.

Meanwhile David Kyasanku the Arua city clerk tasked the community to own the project and ensure that fuel is protected. “Let’s support the project and make sure nobody steals fuel, open your eyes if you see someone putting fuel in Jerrican and running away, call us, each liter matters for us and this liter is your daily tax,” Kyasanku warned.

But Arua resident city commissioner Charles Ichogor braved the community to use the road for socio-economic transformation. “We are launching this road to support socio economic transformation, this road is going to support economic activities in this region, let’s utilize this road for prosperity, lets utilize this road to benefit all of us for production, productivity and profitability,” Ichogor summoned.

The rehabilitation work of Mvara-Ociba-Dadamu-Ombaci road is expected to be completed within two months.
