Madi-Okollo District to Host Peacebuilding Cultural Gala

Madi-Okollo District will this month (March) host first cultural gala. This is intended to promote peace between refugee and host communities through exhibiting products and performance of traditional dances.
The event that is slated for 18th of March at the district headquarters will attract different cultures with the key message of building unity.
Madi-Okollo District Tourism Officer, Zahara Night says the target is to ensure all the communities maintain the peaceful coexistence and revive the cultural activities. “The main objective of organizing this gala is to promote peaceful coexistence between the local and refugee communities, and also to revive culture” Zahara revealed.

Different implementing partners and institutions in the district including GIZ, Danish Refugee Council, Plan International and Offaka SACCO among others are jointly working with the district tourism sector for success of this program.

The Desk Officer at Danish Refugee Council in Rhino camp settlement, Rehema Nantume believes that the program will enable all parties to live together. “To see different cultures interns of cultural dances, cooking and behavior between refugee and host communities.”  She said.  
The District hopes to have this event annually on the 1st of July to mark anniversary of the district.
