Second Chance Gives Hope to Teenage Mothers in Nwoya District

Some child mothers in Nwoya district have their hope restored after a CBO offered them second chance to go back to school. The teenage girls studying in Pader and Nwoya districts sponsored by TEKWORO Foundation are undergoing formal secondary education in Nwoya.

Gloria Oroma, one of the child mothers from Gulu city says the time she got pregnant in her primary seven vacation her father forcefully told her to leave home.
According to Nancy Piloya, another teenage mother who got marriage at senior six, her in-laws refused to pay her back to school despite wanting to achieve her dream.

David Labeja, the public relation officer for TEKWORO foundation says the foundation is supporting girls who are expecting and breast-feeding mothers and even girls who have the feeling to come and join the school is also there. Labeja reveals that they are two campuses in Nwoya and Pader district where they support formal education. However, Director of TEKWORO Foundation Alice Acan says those girls if given second chance will help to be good mothers in future. She appeals to the parents to support girl child education.

TEKWORO Foundation is a community-based organization in Northern Uganda committed to provide education, child protection, health care and livelihood opportunities to war affected women and children.
