Legislators from Bunyoro Sub-Region want Parliament to Name Kabaale Airport After Omukama Kabalega

Parliament of Uganda is yet prevail over naming Kabaale airport after Omukama Kabalega of Bunyoro Kitara kingdom. This comes barely 2-weeks to commemoration of centenary anniversary of Kabalega’s death that shall take place on 6th. April from Buyanja sec. sch in Kibaale district in western Uganda.

On 24th. Feb. last month, the woman Member of Parliament of Hoima city Asinansi Nyakato petitioned office of the prime minister and the government to gazette 6th. April a public holiday, name kabaale airport and pay tribute to him as a national hero. Nyakato is still hopeful for government to prevail over her request seeking bureaucracy in government and parliament of Uganda. Sam Amooti Otada, hailing from Babiito clan the founder of Bunyoro-Kitara kingdom is happy of the efforts being put to honor the king Chwa II Kabalega. “Because in the five countries within east Africa, when I introduce myself as Mubiito I am respected because of kabalega because we have our brothers and sisters in all these countries” Otada added.

The prime minister of Bunyoro Kitara kingdom Andrew Byakutaga says Omukama Kabalega did great work for the country. Omukama Chwa II Kabalega promoted unity among his subjects, trade in salt and Ivory also protected the subjects against attacks by the neighboring communities, Prime minister added.
Omukama Chwa II Kabalega Yokana was the 23rd king of Bunyoro kingdom son to Omukama Kyebambe Kamurasi, born in 18th June 1853 who ruled from 1870-99 before his death in 6th. April. 1923 from Jinja after he was released from exile by the British colonial administration from Seychelles Island.
