The storm is over: Muni girls’ secondary school lifts the trophy of the 2023 Arua city girls’ football.

Songs of thanksgiving and joy clouded the play grounds of St. Mary’s Ediofe girls’ secondary school as students of Muni girls’ secondary school celebrated their victory and championship after playing a draw with St. Mary’s Ediofe girls’ secondary school in a tight competition to raise the trophy of Arua city post primary schools girls’ football tournament. Muni girl’s secondary school emerged the champions of the 2023 Arua city girls’ football tournament after beating their main challenger, St. Mary’s Ediofe girls’ secondary school with a goal difference 2 as the both schools have the goal numbers of 5 and 3 respectively with same goal points of 8.

Candia Milton Atria, the games master of Mvara senior secondary school who doubles as the representative of the games and sports department was quoted while relaying the results of the games. “Muni and Ediofe have ended their games which has taken both of them with 8 points each, followed by Arua Town College and then Tarantino. By the virtue of this game, Muni has now taken the lead because Muni has more goals than St. Mary’s Ediofe girls’ secondary school, but the first 2 teams Muni and Ediofe will represent Arua city in the girls’ football tournament in the regional league”.

Mungufeni Pius, the games master of St. Mary’s Ediofe girls’ secondary school, the second runner up in the tournament believes that his team played the best but hopes to improve on basics of finishing up chances in the next levels of the tournament. “really the girls of Ediofe girls played the best game when it came to the tournament itself, each and every game they played they were able to possess it they created a lot of chances but the clinical part of it is not there. The basic key things we are going to improve on is the finishing up of the chances”. Pius narrated. Girls’ football in west Nile region is still a new born tournament which has shocked most people who rudimentarily think that football is only for boys after seeing the tremendous talent of the girls in football.

Letasi Beatrice, one of the top scorers who scored 2 goals in the tournament, a form 5 student from Muni girls’ secondary school who also plays for Queens West Nile castigates the people who still believe that football is only for boys and urges the girls to build up their talent in football. “Football is not all about fear, it’s about the skills and talent. As long as you have that talent trust me you will make it somewhere. Football is not only for boys, most people outside there normally think football is only for boy but as long as you have the talent you will surely make it”. Letasi explained.
The two champions in the girls’ football tournament Muni girls’ and their immediate rival St. Mary’s Ediofe girls’ secondary school will be joining the rest of the champions from other parts of the region to represent Arua city in the regional girls’ football tournament that will be played in Adjumani district.
