The police regional Child and Family Protection Unit office for West Nile region based in Arua city continues to register increasing cases of children being neglected.
Reports from the office indicate that the trend is as a result of current rise in prices of commodities and Men having multiple sexual partners as well as failing to take up their responsibilities of caring for the children.

According to Jimmy Anguyo, the regional head of Child and Family Protection Unit for West Nile, this has led to increased crime among the population in the region. “Some men have very little income and when you look at the size of the family he supports is not equal to the income he has and as a result some of the children do not go to school, some drop out of school, others end up on the streets and some have become simple robbers within the city.” Anguyo said.
Anguyo urges people to take time to know their partners so as to marry in proper ways and have happy families that accept to take care of their children.

According to statistics from police between January 1st to 31st of June 2022, 175 cases of children neglected were reported from arua city and Arua district.
