The leaders in West Nile region have blamed blood shortage on the attitudes of the people in the region.  Although the region has two different functional blood banks, the banks have all limited number of units of blood to support the 12 districts in the region. Isaac Todoko, the secretary of social services koboko district, has blamed the low level of blood collection on poor mobilization of local community and their leaders on issues of blood donation. “I think this is unacceptable and need to agree on the best modalities of handling this.” Todoko said.
Dr. Dominic Drametu, the Adjumani district, health officer noted they need to involve ministry of health since the challenges facing blood transfusion services in west Nile are overdue.

Dr. Alex Andema, the director Arua regional hospital, argues that the negative perception of blood donation by the donors is one factor affecting blood transfusion services in the region. He said government is in a process of constructing a state of art blood bank in Arua regional referral hospital. “The procurement processes has started, the funds already allocated although.” Dr. Andema said.
