Amuru Farmers get irrigation scheme

130 farmers in Amuru district have been identified to benefit from U gift irrigation project.Agricultural officer Amuru district says,the farmers were  identified following the assessment on the availability of land and  available water source.
Denis Opira a farmer from pu Okumu parish disclosed that, after taking the farmer in to two irrigation schemes like Butaliga and Doho irrigation scheme, farmers realized that irrigation plant will help during dry season.

Richard Kidega, an agricultural engineer Amuru district, says the u gift irrigation program is the government program, which aim at enhancing irrigation uptake by farmers in Uganda since there are few farmers who are practicing irrigation.

The project is targeting small holder farmers with less than  2.5 hectors of land with near by water source,who are willing to cofund. The agricultural extension workers are currently doing assessment. Amuru district production officer, Baturumayo Okwanga reveals that they did their pilot study in Amoyokuma, parish which is picking on well and vegetables are growing very.
