Four Athletes in Gulu Expected to Travel for Olympics To Germany.

Four athletes from Gulu District and the city are expected to obtain passport in order to take part in the forthcoming Special Olympics in Germany next year 2023. The 4-athletes shall form part of the team selected from various schools across the country that took place from St. Joseph’s college Layibi in Gulu city.
The national director Special Olympics Uganda Genevieve Bamwidhukire says her office shall cater for visa and others but parents are expected to acquire passports for their children less such a child may be replaced.

The head teacher of Laroo primary school Walter Kidega Odongpiny where a child has been selected for this noble event committed to supporting the child to take part in the games. The district Education Officer for kibale John Kyabona thinks the national committee should work closely with parents to process travel documents for the 284-participants. The member of board of governance for Special Olympics Uganda Clare Wavamunno says the national teams shall take part in 5-major events for competitions including traditional football, swimming, Athletics and volleyball among others.

The Special Olympics is inclusive sports event for athletes with intellectual disabilities. The athletes compete together in 26 different sports activities
The event shall take place in Berlin-Germany from 17 to 25 June 2023.
