Arua Regional Referral Hospital has finally received the long awaited Computerized Tomography (CT) scan machine. A computerized Tomography (CT) scan machine is a machine that combines a series of X-ray images taken from different angles around the human body and uses computer processing to create cross-sectional images (slices) of the bones, blood vessels and soft tissues inside your body providing more-detailed information than plain X-rays do.
While handing over the machine to the hospital with the documents on behalf of ELSMED East Africa Limited, Milton Mangeni says what he has delivered is exactly what was ordered adding that they have been doing the same in other parts of the country. ”I have brought the scanner then all the components that are needed to combine it together have all been brought” Mangeni said. According to him, they have so far delivered CT scan machines for the districts of Gulu, Lira, Moroto, Mbale, Hoima, Mbarara, Masaka Kabale and Fort Portal.
While receiving the machine at the hospital on 16th November 2022, Dr. Alex Andema, the director Arua Regional Referral Hospital, commended the government for the support which he says will help the region of west Nile so much since the demand for CT scan services have been on the rise. “We have remodeled the radiology department to accommodate the CT scan awaiting its installation and use and the staff are going to be trained to manage this equipment” Dr. Andema said.
A CT scan provides pictures of tissues, organs, and skeletal structure capturing images that help doctors determine if there are abnormal tissues within the body. CT scan also helps to diagnose muscle and bone disorders, such as bone tumors and fractures, pinpoint the location of a tumor, infection or blood clot, Guide procedures such as surgery, biopsy and radiation therapy, detect and monitor diseases and conditions such as cancer, heart disease, lung nodules and liver masses Previously, Arua Regional Referral hospital has been referring patients who require CT scan to Kampala which has been very costly on the side of the patients.
