Mvara boys football club in Arua city is covered by dark clouds as Sunday Cosmas one of their player succumbs to a tragic lightening that hit the players on Tuesday evening.

The players of Mvara boys FC, a regional league club were hit by lightning while in their training pitch on Tuesday evening bringing the deceased Sunday Cosmas to comma leaving the rest of the players including the club head coach Samson Ceasor Okuti with minor injuries.

Swabir Habib commonly known as Suso Odumoudu, the media Relations officer of Mvara boys’ football club confirmed this tragic incidence. “Sunday Cosmas, a former player of Leo FC he was one of the players for trials, the incidence actually happened at around 6Pm when the players were actually for training, when he was struck by lightning, he was rushed to the regional referral hospital, around 10 pm there was a glimpse of hope because he had recovered a bit but around 1:00am or 2:00 am, we received a call that he is actually no more,” Habib confirmed.

Samson Ceasor Okuti the head coach of the team also a survivor of the Tuesday’s lightning recounted what transpired that led to  the demise of Sunday Cosmas. “it was just drizzles, it wasn’t raining heavily for us we were training, all the players who were there including me when the lightning came, it just came once with a lot of lighting it struck all of us down, everybody was down so when everybody started waking up, people were unconscious but the deceased was completely down, so one of our player realized that one of our friend is still down so we all became concerned,” Okuti narrated.
 
This is not the first time Mvara Boys’ FC has lost members in a calamity. On January 27, 2022, two players of Mvara Boys Football Club died in a nasty accident along Nebbi-Pakwach road after the coaster that transported them to a football tournament with Pakwach Young Stars football club lost control and overturned near Alwi Police Post.

Lightning is an electrical discharge caused by imbalances between storm clouds and the ground, or within the clouds themselves and often causes brain and nerve injuries.
