Some inmates on remand at Gulu main prisons have petitioned government to speed up the process of trials.
In a memorandum written and signed by the inmates; David Densy Oryema, Patrick Opiro, Patrick onen Acac and Charles Christopher openy to the archbishop of Gulu archdiocese John Baptist Odama, the inmates requested the archbishop to appeal for more high court judges for speedy trials at Northern Uganda regional circuit for courts of appeal.

The in charge Gulu main prison Emmanuel Muchinguzi acknowledged the request by the inmates saying the current number of inmates in Gulu main prison is beyond the recommended number. Muchinguzi added that, by 23rd December 2021, Gulu main prison had 1,337 inmates. Gulu main prison was designed to accommodate 1-thousand inmates.

The archbishop John Baptist Odama promised to meet the chief justice to present the complaints of the inmates. However, the archbishop encouraged both convicted and on remand to remain obedient to prison’s authorities.
